The Beholder

Regina is twenty-two. She has a love-hate relationship with Manille, the city in which she lives with her pet bunny. She loves rock & roll, tries to write, takes lots of pictures, and dreams of Canon L-glass. This is her almost daily, non-serious photoblog.

Hello! My name is Regina. Most friends call me Reggie. I tend to name most of my websites after myself because I am sorely lacking in originality. I’m 22 and I live in Metro Manila, Philippines. I like music, books, guitarists, Brian Molko, and my pet bunny.
I love taking pictures because you can express yourself and share your life with a lower risk of people making assumptions about you, if their judgment is based purely on your photos. (There will be some jerks who will judge you regardless.)
It’s not like that with the written word. A lot of sh*t has been said about me because people have misinterpreted my tone or my intentions, or because of my surname and the lifestyle they think I lead, or because I have something they want and they refuse to admit it to themselves; things like that which have nothing to do with the kind of person I am.
Suffice it to say that not much of what has been said is actually true, and sadly, some people don’t care. It’s so much easier to be hurtful on the Internet, where you can be anonymous and therefore unaccountable for the things you say. It’s easy to judge a person here because some folks don’t bother to stop and remember that people online are also in the real world. That we are far more than what we choose to put on the Internet.
Anyway, I’m going to step off my soapbox and tell you that I think pictures are great because there’s an honesty in them that words sometimes cannot capture. Sometimes the pictures say the things we can’t (or don’t want to) find the words for. And they’re equally great for when we haven’t got anything to say.
I don’t fancy myself a photographer. I know a good number of real photographers and their work is so mind-numbingly awesome that it will be impossible for me to ever be in their league in this lifetime or the next. I’m just a very devoted hobbyist trying to learn something new every day, albeit with some seriously decent equipment that I probably don’t deserve. (But my parents think I do, so I won’t argue.) I’m trying to keep track of my life and share a bit of it with anyone who cares to know, and I’m doing it with pictures because I tend to give away too much of myself when I write. We’re trying for some distance now. :)
Welcome to Remember Me Through Flash Photography and Screams, my ever-so-slightly late almost-daily photography project. I hope you enjoy your stay.
